Carvings and Canvas

Dedicated to the Joy of Woodcarving and the Promotion and Preservation of woodcarving as an Artform!

P.G. Ross is a native of the Eastern Shore of Virginia which has a rich history of waterfowling and decoys.   P.G. has been carving  for over 25 years and has developed a vision of the decoys he carves through observation while fowling, fishing and working in the saltmarsh environs.  While not working his "day job" as a marine biologist, P.G. serves as a waterfowl hunting guide and fishing guide.  Today, he makes decoys using traditional tools and techniques that are based on the characteristics of live birds.  However, their form has been strongly influenced by both past and modern carvers who fashion birds in the gunning tradition.

P.G. is one of the Decoy Makers featured in the documentary "The Spirit of the Bird" by Academy Award nominated director Jim Spione & produced by the Barrier Islands Center.  The DVD is available from the Barrier Islands Center.
